What is Bob Harvie's background?
Bob Harvie was born and raised in Bristol Borough, the son and grandson of working-class families whose roots in Bucks County go back more than a century — immigrants from Scotland, Italy, and Ireland who worked in the wool mills and a World War I-era shipyard. His great-grandfather sold his vegetable and dairy farm in the 1950s to William Levitt, the developer behind Levittown. Harvie graduated from Bristol High School, earned a bachelor's degree in history magna cum laude from George Washington University, and a master's degree in education from Holy Family University.
He spent 20 years as a social studies teacher and department chair at Bucks County Technical High School, where he also ran the Beyond the Books program — bringing military veterans from World War II through the War on Terror into classrooms to share their experiences with students. He still meets weekly with his former teacher colleagues for breakfast.
